Meet the Team

Mat Taylor

Director

After graduating from the University of Lincolnshire in 1997, Mat spent time working for the Land Registry before qualifying as a solicitor in 2007.

Mat deals with a wide range of matters, including Conveyancing, Private Client, Wills and Probate, and he particularly enjoys helping clients with Commercial Property issues and leases for both Landlords and Tenants.

In his free time Mat enjoys watching Everton, running and reading, and spending time with his family.

Mark Brown

Director

Mark graduated from Sheffield university with a Degree in Law, and has practised as a solicitor since 1990.  After working in Liverpool, Chester and on the Wirral, Mark set up Taylor Brown with Mat Taylor in 2013. Mark deals with a broad range of matters, including Residential and Commercial Conveyancing, the buying and selling of Businesses, Commercial Leases for both Landlords and Tenants, Wills, Probate, and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

As a former President and Honorary Secretary of the Cheshire and North Wales Law Society, Mark remains an active member of the Committee, and was elected as Law Society Council Member for Cheshire in 2021.

A lifelong passionate Liverpool fan, Mark particularly enjoys post-match ‘discussions’ with Mat. He also enjoys “spoiling a good walk” on the golf course and spending time in North Wales with his family, jet-skiing, water skiing and enjoying “proper” walks.

Amy Bird

Director

Amy read Law at Bangor University, graduating in 2013, and went on to obtain First Class Honours in 2014 for her Master’s Degree in International Law with Human Rights. She qualified as a Solicitor in January 2018 and has recently been promoted to Director. Amy has expertise in a broad range of work within the firm, including Residential Conveyancing, Wills and Probate, Court of Protection and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

Amy is the current President of the Cheshire and North Wales Junior Lawyers Division, which is very active in raising funds for Kidsbank and the Trussell Trust. Amy and Lydia have also played an active role in helping Kidsbank with their Christmas appeal, delivering presents to families in need.

Outside of work, Amy’s passions include all things Disney and Harry Potter (so much so that she worked in the Harry Potter section of Universal Orlando Resort in summer 2012). She is also an avid musical theatre fan.

Duncan McAllister

Solicitor

Duncan is a consultant solicitor primarily providing dispute resolution services for a wide range of areas. Duncan was formerly a qualified nurse in England and the USA and qualified as a solicitor in 1995. He was previously a partner at Mace & Jones in Liverpool and also worked for Hillyer McKeown and DTM in Chester.

Whilst he deals with a broad range of disputes, he has particular expertise in contentious trust, probate, shareholder disputes and property litigation as well as employment issues.

Outside of work Duncan has a young family that keeps him fully occupied.  He enjoys sport, (although his playing days are over!) and has a passion for baseball.

Lydia Dean

Trainee Solicitor

Lydia joined Taylor Brown in November 2019 as an admin assistant, and has been progressed to being a Trainee Solicitor at the firm.

She graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2018 with a First-Class Honours in Politics. She is now completing her Post Graduate Diploma in Law with BPP Law School, and hopes to qualify as a solicitor soon.

Outside of work Lydia always has a crochet project to hand, and loves to walk her two pugs. She also loves a good political debate, but be careful because she can get passionate!

Jonathan Roland

Trainee Solicitor

Jonathan graduated in 2018 from Liverpool John Moores University with a BA Hons LLB. He then completed the LPC with a commendation, focusing primarily on corporate and commercial law and intellectual property. Jonathan then taught law at a sixth form college for a year before joining Taylor Brown as a paralegal.

Outside of work, Jonathan is a lifelong Liverpool fan. He loves all things cars, particularly Formula 1 racing, and has been to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix several times. Jonathan also enjoys cycling and participates regularly in charity events, including cycling 50km around the Wirral peninsula in the dead of night.

Nina Jones

PA  to the Directors

Nina joined Taylor Brown in April 2019 bringing with her a wealth of experience in conveyancing. She was promoted to her role as PA to the Directors in April 2020, working predominately with Mathew Taylor.

Nina is experienced in dealing with all types of conveyancing transactions and also assists in probate matters. In addition, Nina is also responsible for SDLT and Land Registry applications.

In her spare time, she enjoys walking, a good Netflix binge, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Penny Knight

Practice Administrator

Penny graduated in French and History from Warwick University, then worked for a US brokerage firm in London, trading US equities. She later became a fund manager for a hedge fund before leaving the UK to live in the USA and then France. Upon her return to the UK, Penny moved into property development, building a small buy-to-let portfolio.

As the Practice Administrator, Penny works primarily behind the scenes, ensuring that as a firm Taylor Brown upholds the highest standards to provide their customers with the best possible service.

In her spare time, Penny enjoys walking, playing bridge and cuddling up with a cat in front of the fire while watching a good box-set.
